Our Approach

Parents

I’m wondering if you’ve ever felt like this:

Have you had the feeling that you lost yourself?

Are you proud of yourself for how much you’re helping your child but wish you had something leftover for yourself?

Do you feel like you never get to just play with your child, that you’re always having to improve something about them?

If you feel this way, you’re not alone. I’ve been through this. I believe in the power of the body-mind connection to heal families no matter the diagnosis. The more connected we are to ourselves as parents and as human beings, the more we can relate to the humanity and wholeness of our children.

The Somatic Child therapy approach works to help families come into connection, deeply and profoundly, while learning the actions of secure attachment, embracing both connection and individuality.

Introduction to the somatic child

I am Margery Segal  ⏤ a developmental psychotherapist and Somatic Movement Therapist/Educator, Infant Developmental Movement Educator®, Body-Mind Centering® teacher and practitioner, a bodyworker, and a Prenatal Birth Attachment specialist. I live in Austin, Texas.

I want to introduce Fabiana Marchiori. She’s a child and parent psychologist who specializes in children with autism and developmental delays. She’s also a Dance Movement Therapist and Somatic Movement Therapist/Educator. She lives in São Paulo, Brazil.

I believe in the power of the body mind connection to heal families no matter what the diagnosis ⏤ that the more connected we are to ourselves as parents ⏤ because I’m also a parent ⏤ and as human beings, the more we can relate to the humanity and wholeness in the child . Whether you come into The Somatic Child as a parent or as a practitioner, I want to welcome you. You’re in the right place.

Created by a parent for parents

And parents, I’m wondering if you’ve ever felt like this:

Have you had the feeling that you lost yourself?

Are you tired all the time?

Do you feel like you’ve lost your soul?

Do you feel like your whole life is filled with appointments for someone else?

Are you proud of yourself for how much you’re helping your child but wish you had something leftover for yourself?

Do you feel like you never get to just play with your child, that you’re always having to improve something about them and that there’s some kind of Clock ticking every time you spend time with them?

If you feel this way, you’re not alone. I’ve been through this. I am the parent of a child with special needs except now he’s a young adult with special needs. And though everyday now is not life and death like it was when he was very little there’s still days I feel that I’ve haven’t done enough to help him out in his life-and any road blocks are because I didn’t do enough.

Well, guess what? I started taking Somatic trainings to learn things to help my son and in the process I learned that it mattered profoundly how I was doing. I learned he was forming his nervous system from my nervous system and my nervous system was all jacked up . At The time of his early childhood , we hadn’t lived in a steady home because we had put everything on hold and into helping him , we weren’t centered, we weren’t well, we got sick often and we were so stressed out . I wish I had known early on That how the parents are really affects how the child is. That therapy for the child needs to include therapy for the parents. It needs to be one and the same. We need to help both the parent and the child to have a healthy outcome. They become the medicine for each others’ healing. When one does well the other does better and vice versa. It’s the best kind of interdependency , when a family wants all of its members to be well .

Created by professionals for everyone

So that’s why I wanted to start The Somatic Child, I wanted to train people how to work with the whole family as well as the whole child no matter what challenges are going on with the child. And the foundation for this work is our heartfelt somatic approach to both the parent and the child. The Somatic Child therapy approach works to help families come into connection, deeply and profoundly, while learning the actions of secure attachment, embracing both connection and individuality.

Parents ⏤We offer groups and trainings specifically for you to reclaim you sanity and health. And to heal your heart.

Professionals ⏤ Want to train in a method that embraces the whole child and creates healing for the whole family?

Our Somatic Child & Parent Therapies and Trainings start at the beginning with processing and understanding the birth, exploring how developmental movement is impacting present events, secure attachment oriented play therapy, bodywork, reflex integration, rhythmic movement, expressive arts, trauma recovery, emotional processing and parent sessions to mend mind, body, and spirit.
